Note: I am not a big fan of calling this project "Mortal Fear." Still, it is miles away from "Dreaming in the House of Madness," or "Unnamed Lovecraftian Project." Mortal Fear is hardly indicative of the genre. The name sounds more akin to a slasher film.
The main character for my point-and-click horror game is coming along. I had always had a consistent vision, but I lacked knowledge of late 1800s, early 1900s fashion.
The issues I had were purely with the color of her outfit and the vest. I did not enjoy drawing it. It constantly felt like I was drawing the above style incorrectly in regard to how it sat against her breasts. Instead, I looked at some other Victorian styles and realized that I preferred the vest sitting below her breasts.
I'm not entirely sold on blue as her color, but I feel much more confident in the blouse design. I like the buttons and I prefer how the vest sits. Honestly, it makes her feel far more elegant and feminine. I do see a feminine, yet strong and independent woman in Caren which this design appears to lend better towards. Of course, I want to accentuate that she is vulnerable, loving, and caring as well. I intend to have her keep a neutral face in most interactions. Not so smiley like in the below.
While I do like the look in the above and believe that Caren herself, prior to the events of the game, was happy, I simply believe that she will face the events of the game in a neutral manner. She will, naturally, have some illustrated expressions. (Not in her sprite work other than what can be shown with the style previously depicted.)
Full speed ahead...
