Judgment: Part 4

Veleria was surprised to find an entire group of people lying in wait for Adrian upon their return. Multiple members of his guild had reportedly prepared to extract him themselves, with Meredith having already abandoned the Southern border in anticipation. She claimed it had gone quiet, although Adrian found this unlikely. Veleria did not sit in on the majority of their discussions. It was not her place, although Adrian had once again offered her a position among them.

Alliances are important.

She found herself walking the beach by Adrian’s cabin while the man discussed matters elsewhere. As she did so, she found companionship with Caellach again. Speaking with him often eased her mind.

“I know,” said Veleria. “Involving him any further is the last thing I want to do.”

It is dangerous, certainly. Beyond the Korvach, the Arbiter presents another threat.

Veleria blinked.

“What is that?” She asked. The pronunciation he used failed her. “That…Kor…I’m not sure how to even say that.”

Caellach was silent for a moment. She even stopped walking to let him think.

It is what Edgar referred to as the void.

Crossing her arms, Veleria reviewed his words. When she thought about it she realized it made sense, although it was likely that she was crossing with Caellach again and she was able to use his words as he would.

“Honestly, I almost forgot about it.” Veleria pushed her brow. “We may have to contend with the Arbiter on top of something that managed to destroy your entire civilization…”

That was wrong, though. It hadn’t done that. Not exactly. Caellach soon corrected her.

Back then, there were many Korvachii. My sibling and I managed to defeat most of them. Salenne…My sibling, was merely too weakened to continue when the last one arrived.

Sitting down on the beach, Veleria closed her eyes. She wanted to envision his words.

“The name you gave me in Lindow was in reverence to your sibling?”

Yes. I failed them. I did not wish to fail you, too.

Veleria smiled sadly. Were he in his own body, she would most certainly offer Caellach an embrace. While they sat in silence, the sound of sand crunching behind her brought her to look, only to see Adrian approaching.

“Hey there,” he said. “I have a crapload of documents to sign, but I think everything else has been squared away. Do you want to sit out here awhile longer? Arthur gave me this aged sausage from down south that I doubt you’ve ever had before…I mean, if you want to eat…I guess you don’t—“

“We can eat,” Veleria said while standing up. She felt Caellach’s interest before Adrian even finished speaking.

“We…? Oh,” Adrian’s brow creased, “I guess that…Makes sense.”

Veleria came up beside him. With a soft palm, she patted Adrian’s shoulder.

“Don’t sweat the details, it can be hard to get used to.” She grinned, and led the way back to Adrian’s cabin.
